Summary

We received an unusual one-off request from someone: a 3d printed banana holder that is food safe and looks different than any other banana holder out there.

 We used topology optimization methods that are normally meant to reduce the amount of material used while still maintaining functionality, and instead used it to create something visually striking. The end result is something that looks like a mix of an eroding rock formation, and some kind of organic bone structure. This design had a large platform to place a bowl underneath the bananas, and was made out of PETG, which is similar to the PET used in many food safe plastic bottles. 

This design was also specifically designed to be printed without any supports in order to improve the overall appearance and print quality.
